This book gives the six keys to learning, leading, and living without barriers
1. "Every time we learn; our brains form, strengthen, or connect neural pathways. We need to replace the idea that learning ability is fixed, with the recognition that we are all on a growth journey."
This part discusses mindset, how we see ourselves, and our ability and capacity. It also talks about gifted children struggling when they can't, as if because they are gifted they should be able to do this and that without making mistakes - or what could be called a learning process. In fact, they also want and need to learn - they may make mistakes. The label "smart" is a limitation if the person can't make mistakes or knows everything, even though it's not like that.
2. “The times when we are struggling and making mistakes are the best times for growth”
This section talks about how we often see failure as wrong, and we don't even give failure or mistakes a chance. This happened when I couldn't tolerate my niece not pouring water into the flower pot - so I interrupted her quickly. In fact, it was her learning process. In this book, the author says that failure creates synapses in our brain with the mistakes we make. That makes us able to remember things better because it “connects the brain” to the value of mistakes, struggles, and learning pits.
3. “When we change our belief, our bodies, our brains physically change as well”
= Brain and bodies it turns out are incredibly adaptable. The power of this knowledge is amplified when teaches, parents, coaches and managers as well as students and other learners. approach learning with this in mind
= Teachers hold an incredible amount of influence
= Once we know that brains and people can achieve almost anything. it should lead us to think of human potential and institutions of learning - entirely differently
= When we combine different approaches to thinking about ourselves with new approaches to knowledge the results are powerful.
4. “Neural pathways and learning are optimized when considering ideas with a multidimensional approach”
Ways to encourage connections and brain development (multidimensional approach) We usually learn the “right” way as if the other way is wrong - this is not the case.
5. “Speed of thinking is not a measure of aptitude. Learning is optimized when we approach ideas and life with creativity and flexibility”
Timed math-fact tests given to young children are the beginning of math anxiety for many.
Conclusion from the book
= These ideas (growth thinking, mindset, etc) do not turn us into different people, but they can set free what was in us already, what was always possible for us but in many cases not being realized
= When we believe for us that we cannot do something, our limiting ideas often become self fulfilling and when we believe that we can do something, usually we can
=When faced obstacles, found way around, developing new strategies and approach to try. When we let go of limits and embrace the idea that anything can be achieved, it can be change many aspects of our lives
=Embracing mistakes will not make any difference in the number made, but you can choose to view them positively or negatively. if you choose the former, it will help you to become limitless.
